Gua Sha

Gua sha otherwise known as spooning or scraping is a traditional Chinese medicine style of treatment where a smoothed thin edged instrument is rubbed against the skin to lift up stagnant poor circulating blood within muscle tissue near the surface. The sensation is a quick motion tight scrapping feeling over the back and neck. The technique causes redness to rise to the surface of the skin. Depending on the coloration of the light bruising we can determine if it was stagnant blood (dark purple) or more inflammation and heat (bright red) we also can see if there is deficiency also if it looks more pale.

We make sure that the area being treated is carefully examined and that the technique we use is as painless as possible and ensure that the area is able to recover in the quickest amount of time.

Gua Sha is usally combined with Acupuncture or a stand alone treatment for many conditions such as. Wry Neck. Cold and Flu. Back and Shoulder stiffness. Neck Pain.

We have treatments for Gua sha at Acuharmony Acupuncture Clinic in Melbournes CBD.
